My score was 563, and i was denied this card. I also have a business and personal accounts with Bank of america. Unless you credit score is higher, I won't even bother trying for this card.
Keep in mind college students that the maximum credit limit is $2500 for all BofA student cards. I currently have the Visa Gold Student Card and my limit is already maxxed out. You need "good" credit atleast for this card, somewhere in the mid 600's.
i have other credit cards and my limit on those cards are $6000.. but when i applied for this card they denied it...so dont bother appliying for this card...cuz they wont approve you...if u have score lower then 670...tnx
highly recommend this credit card for students starting to build credit
i applied for this card and was denied but was approved for a partial secured car where u pay them $99 and you get a credit limit of $500. I went through with it because it was less then some of the fees i had fror my unsecured cards. never heard of this has anyone ever heard about this before.
I didn\'t get approved unfortunately. Just thought that I would try. I checked my credit score a couple of weeks ago and it was at 645. The reason why they say I was denied was because I had a past Chapter 7 from 9 years ago. Yep, -9 years- ago. It\'s about to fall off the record in about a year.. most creditors stop looking at that after a few years.. but I guess they are a little stricter at BofA. On the other hand, they did approve me (though I think just about everyone qualifies anyway) for a secured card. I\'m not sure if it\'s worthwhile since the account they set up for the collateral (deposit) is non interest bearing. That\'s news to me because they used to be interest bearing in the past.
I was approved for 1k when I applied for checking acct along with this credit card back to Oct, 2006. I did not charge much on this card until it was converted to World points Visa.
I've had this card for a year and I used it heavily even though this card doesn't have a rewards program. I've never had any late payments and started out with a $750 CL and received a $250 CLI (at my request) and stayed with the $1,000 for another 6 months.
Today, I checked my account as I always do in the morning to make sure everything is alright and I see that my Student PP Visa has been upgraded to a regular PP Visa. Now, this card doesn't have rewards but I am going to try to upgrade to a Worldpoints Visa.
When I saw that they upgraded my card to a PP Visa, I immediately jumped and grabbed the opportunity to ask for a CLI. I left the CLI amount empty and they granted me a $200 CLI. It's not much but definitely something.
Here's what I have learned when it comes to asking for a CLI. If you are asking for a CLI and they ask you for the amount of CLI, leave it empty. Just enter the household income and the rest of the info. I'm very glad I got bumped up to the PP Visa because the Student PP Visa came with very little options. They said that limits on the Student PP Visa don't exceed $1k and they can't upgrade it to any other cards. Now, I will try to upgrade it to a WorldPoints Visa or to the Americard.
One more thing, I know that a lot of people have been receiving a letter for denial when they ask for a CLI saying that their limit is sufficient compared to their income. Well, I used to receive that letter also but it's not true. If you build a good and long reputation with BofA, they will give you what you want. It's just a matter of time and on-time payments.
I got approved for this CC last July 2008. Did my research on the internet and from personal experiences of friends & relatives on getting approved for a credit card. Almost every article I read suggests getting a secured card or a store card. I felt getting a store card might be next to impossible due to having no credit history at all (always used cash for everything, never tried to get a credit card until last year because of plans of getting a car loan and need to build credit history) I walked-in to a BoA branch near our house and talked to a BoA officer about getting a Secured Credit Card. BoA officer suggested opening a Checking & Savings account with them because according to him, there's a higher chance of getting approved if I have an account with them, and then also applying for the Student Visa at the same time. Deposited $50 on the savings and another $50 on the checking. Provided the usual info on the application (name, SSN, etc). BoA officer did my application on the computer (not sure if it was online where the general consumer can access it, or they have a special site where they can submit the application and indicate that the applicant is a BoA client). Anyway, after a few minutes, he told me the good news: "Congratulations, your application has been approved for $800 Credit Limit." I was so happy! So after a year and a half of being on the Student Visa, I never encountered any problems with this CC. It is accepted anywhere I go, I could view transactions & make my payments online (paid with my BoA checking acct), payments post on the scheduled date, pay my balances in full every month, I use the card regularly (small purchases, gas, food, groceries). I started with 15.99% APR (2008) Then on March 2009 I noticed my APR to be 14.24% (which is still the same 'til now).
